My preference is to blog about the happy things in life.
I generally stay away from the negative.
But life’s always about ups and downs–even during this super happy time of waiting for our baby girl’s arrival.
Two not-so-happy things happened in the past couple of weeks:
- Our daycare doesn’t have space for her until about 10 weeks after my return to work.
- I was diagnosed with borderline gestational diabetes.
I’d be lying if I said both pieces of news weren’t disappointing. But things are already looking up.
First we planned out a “homemade” daycare schedule, made possible by generous family members willing to donate precious PTO days to caring for our babe. Now, we may have found another solution: a temporary, trusted at-home daycare. We’ll know more once we tour this week.
About the gestational diabetes: I took the three-hour glucose tolerance test on Tuesday, was diagnosed on Wednesday and met with a diabetes educator on Thursday. Since I only failed two of the four tests, I should be able to control it simply with diet and continued exercise.
The four-times-a-day finger pricks were scary at first, but now that I’m three days in, they’re easy. And here’s the best part: my sugar levels have been amazingly low! I have faith that baby and I will make it through this just fine.
God said, “My presence will go with you. I’ll see the journey to the end.”
